The importance of keeping your body moving is huge, especially when you are a diabetic. Most probably, you know this, and most of diabetics do exercise. However, they still have high blood sugar levels.
What is happening? Are Diabetics not exercising enough? On the other hand, is the exercise not working?
Let us see deep what is going on. Let us be more practical.
-When they first diagnosed, diabetics are determined to lower their high blood glucose levels. They follow every instruction (from diet to exercise) very rigorously. In addition, they get their blood glucose begins to lower. But? After achieving the first goal, diabetics are satisfied and begin to break the rules. "Ok, let us eat this cake; after all it is only one time". "This fried meat is so delicious. Oh, I will eat; it is only one time. I can permit it". Moreover, they do not remember the "times" anymore, and continue to satisfy their gluttony. The result: blood sugar comes up again. This time is very difficult to optimize it.
-Diabetics are not aware of what is happening to their body. Although the blood glucose is optimized, there are some damages that have been already settled in diabetics' body, which are very difficult to re-heal. What exercise do is to help clear your body from the excess of metabolites in order to relieve the consequences of the damages. Persistent high blood glucose makes diabetics tired, with lack of energy; thus, they do not feel (cannot) exercise (even walk). In this way, the bad effects of damages remain for long time, putting diabetics in a "blind-circle".
-What is our society doing for diabetics? What are governmental and no-governmental organizations doing to help people with diabetes? To me, NOTHING. Promotional messages on healthy foods (from "food-industries") are emptying the pockets of people, especially in these days of "world crisis". This is not the right way to help diabetics and help stop diabetes epidemics. One diabetic is tired of listening: walk, exercise, eat this, and do not eat that, and so on. Let us take an example. When eating outside: one diabetic choose some "diabetic" dishes. Near him/her sit other people, eating delicious foods (chips, burgers, etc), all of an appetizing smell. The diabetic finish to tell him/herself "Ok, I will eat that burger; it is only for this time". All the "diabetic-regime" he/she was building with lots of efforts is ruined. Who is guilty?
-In a family gathering, one diabetic wants to enjoy the evening, including the foods, drinks and cigarettes. There are rare people who are strong enough to not be attempted by these "goods". Most of the people do not resist the temptation and begin to abuse. One word "DO NOT" cannot make diabetics comes strong. It is human to do what should not be done. If a family changes the rules of eating and living habits, this can help diabetics come strong. Furthermore, the entire family will stay healthy (after all, diabetics should eat in a healthy way, not the tasty one).
All the above talking is to understand the link of exercise with other strategies of lowering cholesterol. This is the unity. Exercise cannot make miracles alone. Foods restrictions and good choices too. If you combine them together, the success is guaranteed.
Changes take time to appear. Moreover, they are very fragile: if you abuse, you will get the good results upside-down. Working with people is hard; but working with oneself is even harder. Nothing is impossible. Just enhance the strength of willing and make a diabetic feel comfortable.
