Basic knowledge of child diabetes symptoms is important in order to diagnose the child at an early stage and to seek for prompt treatment. It also helps in preventing any complications that can threaten the life of your kid. Moreover, diet will be chosen properly especially when you have the diagnosis that your child is diabetic. Lifelong management must be done in order to control the levels of blood glucose in the body.
When your kid has child diabetes, he or she can experience increased thirst and frequent urination. Because the pancreas cannot produce insulin in the body, there will be increased glucose present in the blood vessels. Since your blood is highly tonic, fluid will shift from the tissues to your blood thus causing cell thirst. This will send signals to the brain that your cells are thirsty that is why your child tend to drink more fluids resulting in increased urination.
In addition, your kid will also experience hunger aside from thirst. Glucose is the food of the cells. It requires insulin so that it will be delivered to the cells of tissues and organs. However, since your pancreas cannot produce insulin, the cells of your body will not have enough food and energy. Your child will feel hungry all the time and would tend to look for food to eat.
Even if your child will increase its intake of food and fluids due to thirst and hunger, you may notice that there is unexplained weight loss. The tissues of the muscles and the fat stores shrink and thus cause loss of weight. Moreover, fatigue is felt and generalized weakness due to the lack of food in the cells and organs.
Lastly, your child can experience blurry vision which is already a complication when the glucose is too high and not monitored at an earlier time. The increased blood glucose can pull the fluid in the lenses which results in difficulty of focusing in your children. Aside from the eyes, if your kid is young girl, increased blood glucose is a good medium for the occurrence of yeast infections.
These are the common signs and symptoms that kids with diabetes type 1 have. As a parent you must be knowledgeable about these symptoms so that when it occurs in your children, you will be able to seek medical treatment. You can prevent further complications when this medical condition is known at an earlier time.
