Diabetes symptoms and causes are fairly well known. It is a chronic disease caused primarily by an individual being unable to produce the hormone, insulin. As a result, the blood sugar levels in the human body are not regulated. Insulin injections are required to treat this disease.
Symptoms can include extreme thirst. The patient s blood sugar level is persistently high. The danger, however, lies in the many side effects this condition can have.
There are many cases that end up losing limbs to amputation. Sometimes gangrene can occur if the condition goes untreated. Blindness is another possible condition that diabetes can cause.
]Many cases of type two diabetes are caused by poor diet, obesity and lack of exercise. An individual stricken with type one diabetes is stricken and the cause is yet to be determined by the medical community. Onset is usually in childhood and is a lifelong condition.
Other causes of diabetes are still debatable. A family history of diabetes does seem to make someone more susceptible to being stricken by the disease. Obesity, chemical exposure to certain components and stress all increase the risk.
Physicians reach a diagnosis of diabetes when a person urinates frequently, is unusually thirsty and has an out of control appetite. Bad breath and abdominal pain also occur. One can go into a diabetic coma or even die from untreated diabetes.
Fortunately, treatment options have evolved dramatically in the last decade. There are appliances called diabetic pumps that can be implanted under the skin. Insulin can then be injected either manually or on a programmed schedule.
The injection site must be changed frequently to avoid infection. It can be removed long enough for the individual to go swimming. Using the diabetic pump is a convenience to many diabetics.
Diabetes symptoms and causes will alert you to the problem. Possibly, it can be alleviated by diet and exercise along. More often though, insulin tablets or injections are required.
